"Have To" Versus "Get To"
Sometimes life is really hard.

I'm not referring to the hard where you oversleep and are late for work.

But instead, the hard where it feels impossible to move.

The hard where eating, takes too much energy.

The hard where crying and sleeping are the only means of functioning.

The hard where knowing how to support someone is lost on you.

The hard where supporting someone is showing up for them at their son's funeral.

The hard where you know you need to take care of yourself, but you don't know what that looks like.

The past few weeks have been hard. For both me and my husband. I'm grateful that our family is safe and healthy. But a number of our close friends and coworkers have had insurmountable pain. My strong husband, the one who's always my rock, keeps saying, "it's just so heavy."

Sometimes even the rocks, those that seem strongest, break off the cliff.

Even though my husband and I are only in our 40's, we've had enough life experiences to know, that this too, is a season.

We know we have to ride out this roller coaster. We have to cuss, scream, hold on tight, and try to enjoy the views as we go.

We have to take care of ourselves, each other, and those we love the most.

We have to make time to decompress in our own ways. Playing guitar, creating, reading, journaling, going for a drive and talking.

We have to support those in pain, the best way we can.

And just like that, I realize, we don't "HAVE" to do all this. We "GET" to do this.

We GET to ride out this roller coaster. We GET to cuss, scream, hold on tight, and try to enjoy the views as we go.

We GET to take care of ourselves, each other, and those we love the most.

We GET to make time to decompress in our own ways. Playing guitar, creating, reading, journaling, going for a drive and talking.

We GET to support those in pain, the best way we can.

This is living.
This is life.
In all its hard and in all its beauty.

May you find something today that you HAVE to do, and realize it's actually something you GET to do.

I hope you feel and know that I am here for you. That I GET to support people through life's hards. Today and always.

I'd love to hear in the comments what you realize today is something that you thought you HAVE to do, but you now realize it's something you GET to do
